About P. R. Kannan
Born on 28th December 1943, Sri P. R. Kannan, has deep interest in Sanatana Dharma and has authored many articles, books and given religious discourses in Tamil, English and Hindi for many years.
He has worked in many reputed organizations including NPC and UHDE India and overseas, after a brilliant academic career with M.Tech. degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering from IIT, Madras and Post graduate Diploma from Holland.

Brahmavid Asirvada Paddhati
This book by Sri Vidyaranya Swamigal, translated to English by P R Kannan, contains the essence of Prasthana Traya - Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Bhagavad Gita. It is a fundamental Vedantic text, couched beautifully in the form of prayer. This prayer is usually chanted by Sanyasis yearning for Brahmagnana during Chaturmasyam in front of the Acharyas. Vaidikamantrakalpalata - Introduction
Also called as Kashmirika Mantra Kalpadruma, Vaidika Mantra Kalpa Lata, like Laugakshi Gruhya Sutra, also has been authored by Maharshi Laugakshi and it contains the various mantra prayogas and suktas. Majority of the Kashmiri Pandits belong to the rare Shakha called as Katha Shakha which is a branch of Krishna Yajur Veda. Katha Shakha has many mantras which are identical with Rig Veda and Taittiriya Shakha of Krishna Yajur Veda. The Vaidika Mantra Kalpalata of this Katha Sakha has used in various prayogas many mantras from Rigveda and others which are similar to Taittiriya Shakha of Krishna Yajurveda.

Smritimuktaphalam – Canto 1
Translated to English by PR Kannan, this Nibandhana’ book compiled by Vaidyanatha Dikshitar and titled ‘SMRITIMUKTAPHALAM’, meaning ‘Pearl of Smritis’. This great work, also called ‘Vaidyanatha Dikshitiyam’, is divided into six Kandams, the first being ‘Varnasrama Dharma Kandam’. Dharmas for people in the four Varnas and Asramas have been dealt with in great detail here, citing not only the views of various Rishis, but also Vedas, Puranas, Dharmasutras, previous Nibandhana books etc. together with the compiler’s own explanation as required.
Common Dharmas in Manusmriti
Manusmriti is a book of laws, authored by the earliest and the most authoritative Law-giver, Bhagavan Manu. This book derives its authority from the Vedas and lays down rules of conduct and procedures of rituals for individuals in different walks of life. Known also as Dharmasastra, this unique book deals with human life right from birth to death. In Manusmriti there are many verses dealing with Samanya Dharmas, eternal rules of conduct, applicable to all humans at all times. These verses with translation in English by PR Kannan are presented.
